🎵 La colonna sonora della lettura

Ludovico Einaudi – Una Mattina

Miei cari amici lettori,

c’è qualcosa che succede ogni volta che torno in Sardegna.

Non accade appena scendo dal traghetto. Succede qualche ora dopo.

Fate spazio.

Poi raccontatemi come vi siete sentiti.

Making Space 🍀

🎵 Reading Soundtrack

Ludovico Einaudi – Una Mattina

“The most beautiful stories don’t always begin by adding something. Sometimes they begin by choosing what to let go.”

My dear readers,

There’s something that happens every time I return to Sardinia.

It doesn’t happen the moment I step off the ferry. It comes a few hours later.

When I open the windows.

When the scent of the sea drifts into the rooms.

When the sound of the waves slowly replaces the constant buzz of notifications.

It’s as if my body remembers something long before my mind does.

I slow down.

Without deciding to.

I simply… slow down.

Here, the days seem to move to a different rhythm.

The sun never rushes.

The sea is never in a hurry.

People stop to talk.

Dinner can last for hours without anyone constantly checking the time.

And it’s incredible how just a few days are enough for me to start wondering:

Why is it so difficult to live at this same pace when I’m back home?

The truth is, the little house in the woods that I love so much has already taught me a great deal.

It has taught me the value of silence.

Of long walks with Ohm.

Of tending the vegetable garden with my husband.

Of listening to the wind moving through the trees.

But the sea…

The sea teaches me something different.

It teaches me that living slowly doesn’t mean doing less.

It means making space.

Space to breathe.

To observe.

To listen.

To be bored.

To change your mind.

To spend time with the people you love without always having somewhere else to be.

These past few days, an old friend has come back to visit me as well.

California.

Not the one you see on postcards.

The one I’ve carried inside me for years.

Whenever I look at the ocean, I think of those endless beaches, surfboards resting on the sand, bicycles riding along the coastline, and that wonderfully relaxed way of life that has always fascinated me.

For a long time, I believed it was a dream tied to a specific place.

Today, I think I was wrong.

Maybe I don’t dream of living in California.

Maybe I dream of living the way I feel whenever I think about California.

That’s a huge difference.

Because it means I can begin creating that place wherever I am.

Even in my little home on the edge of the woods.

And perhaps that is this summer’s greatest gift.

It’s reminding me that slow living doesn’t begin with an address.

It begins with a choice.

It isn’t the sea that makes us calmer.

It isn’t the trees.

It isn’t even a vacation.

It’s us, the moment we stop filling every empty space in our lives.

In August, I’ll return home.

And I already know I’ll feel the need to simplify.

Not just my closets.

My thoughts.

My commitments.

The things I keep holding on to even though I know they no longer reflect who I am.

Because making space in a house is, in many ways, the same as making space within ourselves.

And perhaps the greatest luxury today isn’t buying something new.

It’s having the courage to choose what is truly essential.

A Thought of Mine 💭

For years, I believed that change required dramatic revolutions.

Today, I believe the opposite.

I think it begins with an open window.

With the scent of the sea.

With a room that’s finally in order.

With a walk alongside Ohm.

With a dinner where no one watches the clock.

With a day when you don’t manage to do everything you had planned…

…and discovering that it’s perfectly okay.

Because maybe life isn’t asking us to do more.

Maybe it’s simply asking us to live better.

🌿 The Redville Challenge

This week, choose just one thing.

Only one.

It could be a drawer.

Your planner.

A day that’s become too crowded.

Make space.

Then come back and tell me how it made you feel.

Because sometimes, change doesn’t come through the front door.

It enters through the space we finally make for it.
